UPDATE: Hurricane Harvey (MON-2230)
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) remains at Level 1 (Maximum Readiness).
The center of Tropical Storm Harvey is moving back into the Gulf of Mexico and causing additional heavy rainfall in Harris County. The National Weather Service expects at least another 5-7 inches of rain with as much as 2 inches per hour.
METRO services will continue to be suspended through Wednesday, Aug.30, 2017 due to unsafe road conditions and flooding. METRO is continuing to provide shuttles to transport people to area shelters.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began releasing water from the Addicks and Barker Dams overnight. The rainfall rate prompted water release into affected areas sooner than expected. New models for release are being created by USACE to reflect the increased water flows.
Corps officials expect the reservoir pool levels to continue to rise throughout the week, despite controlled releases from Addicks and Barker Reservoirs that began earlier this morning. These elevated pool levels could impact surrounding areas behind the dams for several weeks to months.
Voluntary and Mandatory evacuations have been issued near Addicks and Barker Reservoirs.
