Public Relations
The Cy-Fair Public Relations Department (PR Dept) is responsible for public education on fire safety issues. Staff members respond to all major emergency scenes. They act as an official source of information to the news media and work with displaced families to receive assistance from The American Red Cross and other governmental agencies. The PR Dept also offers fire station tours and public appearance of apparatus at special events. The list below describes the options available. Due to the demand in responding to emergency calls and PR requests we have had to modify our procedures. Please carefully read the below guidelines..
The request must be submitted more than 2 weeks prior to the event. If interested in scheduling an event, please
read the below options and click on the button below and fill out the PR Request form with the details of your event. A
PR Dept staff member will then contact you to schedule your event.
** Updated for 2009 - Station Tours
Tours will now be scheduled a minimum of two weeks prior to event to allow stations to plan events and training. No station tours will be conducted on Thursday nights as those nights are designated as departmental training. Tours will consist of a safety discussion by a firefighter, and quick tours of the station, and a look at the fire apparatus.
* Public Appearances
Fire Department apparatus can come to approved schools, churches and public functions. Appearances for businesses are extremely restricted and must have approval by a Public Information Officer prior to scheduling. Firefighters are available to teach fire safety issues and talk about rewarding careers in the Fire and Emergency Medical Service.
* Day Cares
Due to the increased demand and responding to emergency calls and PR requests we have had to decline from coming out to day cares. There are too many in our responding territory to keep up with the demand. We encourage parents to get together and schedule either an evening or weekend tour of the station.
Schools
In an attempt to keep up with demands of the elementary and middle schools we have changed our procedures. We will now send a crew to a school for an entire day. That crew will continue to put on educational presentations till all classes have gone through. This will mean we will only visit each school once, so scheduling should be coordinated with all classes. We cannot continue to visit each school multiple times.
Fire Safety Trailer
Available for schools, churches, festivals. This trailer is used to teach children about fire safety issues in various areas of the home. Non-toxic "Smoke" is used to show how a bedroom becomes filled with smoke and doors heat up simulating fire or hot air on the other side. This trailer is reserved for events with 200 or more participants and must have approval by a Public Information Officer prior to scheduling due to the man power required to properly and safely operate.
*"Freddie the Fire Truck"
(Only available for Special Events and to be approved by the PIO Supervisor) A remote controlled robot that interacts with children and moves about them. The operator, from a remote area, can talk to the children about fire safety issues through the robot. This must be requested at least one month in advance as special preparations are required.
*Public Speaker
A Public Relations staff member or someone from the Fire Chiefs staff can speak to any group or organization about the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department or a variety of fire and life safety issues. Please indicate on your request what topic you would like our speaker to discuss. Requests for a speaker should be made with at least three weeks' notice.
Please understand that we are a working fire department. There will be times that we may not make your function or have to leave due to an emergency. We hope you understand and want to thank you for your continued support. We have made these changes to still continue to perform PR events but not over burden our volunteer members. Our first priority is to save lives and protect property.
Sorry, we do not perform at day cares, private parties or birthday parties!!
