Firefighting
Any resident may submit an application for membership at any one of the twelve Cy-Fair VFD stations. Click the Application link above for a .pdf version of the application. Station meetings are held most Thursday evenings beginning a 7:00 p.m. This is a good time to stop by to learn more about volunteer firefighting.
Training
Every new member is required to complete a cadet program before the individual is authorized to fight fire.
After the cadet program, the individual is a Chauffeur's Assistant. This is to allow for additional training time at the station-level and for the person to get limited hands-on experience at fires until he/she is ready to be a firefighter.
Equipment
The uniform and firefighting clothing is provided to the new member by the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department. This equipment remains the property of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department and must be returned upon leave.
Time Commitment
After the initial cadet class, most stations require the individual to attend meetings (held on Thursday evenings) and to regularly respond to emergencies. This total time commitment can average about 4 hours a week.
Emergency Medical Services
The department does not provide the Emergency Medical Technician certification course. However, this program may be found at local community colleges. This is a 120+ course that includes actual hospital and ambulance rotations, and is typically held in the evenings and weekends. Additional advanced level courses including EMT-Paramedic are also available through these colleges.
After passing the Texas Department of Health exam, the individual must pass a local protocol test and complete the ambulance preceptor program, which requires about 48 hours of assisting on the ambulance (for EMT-Basic).
Time Commitment
Same as Firefighting
Associate Membership
Associate Members of the Department are non-voting members and may not respond to fires or medical emergencies. These individuals provide other support to the department including as Public Safety Educators. Auxiliary Members are also Associate Members.
Time Commitment
Requirements may differ between stations
